Der Mercedes-Benz R230 ist ein Sportwagen mit Anleihen an moderne Roadsterkarosserien von Mercedes-Benz. Er wird seit 2001 im Daimler-Werk Bremen produziert und ist das Nachfolgemodell des Mercedes-Benz R129. Als Besonderheit verfügt der R230 serienmäßig (SL 350 optional) über das sogenannte Active Body Control (ABC)-Fahrwerk. Beim ABC-Fahrwerk, das auf einer Stahlfederung beruht, werden auf Basis von Sensorsignalen und mit Hilfe spezieller Hydraulikzylinder an den Achsen Wank- und Nickbewegungen der Karosserie beim Anfahren, bei Kurvenfahrt und beim Bremsen fast vollständig kompensiert. Dieses Fahrwerk wurde mit der CL-Klasse (C215) eingeführt und ist ansonsten noch in der S-Klasse erhältlich.
Der Mercedes R230 hat ein versenkbares Dach, das sich bei Bedarf samt gläserner Heckscheibe elektrohydraulisch in den Kofferraum einfahren lässt. Gegen Aufpreis ist es auch mit einem Glaseinsatz erhältlich.
Im 3. Quartal des Jahres 2001 stellte Mercedes mit dem SL 55 AMG die Sportversion des SL 500 vor. Das zum damaligen Zeitpunkt leistungs- und drehmomentstärkste Modell des Typs R230 distanzierte sich optisch durch einen neu geformten Stoßfänger mit Frontspoiler und zusätzliche Seitenschweller, 18-Zoll-Vielspeichenfelgen, dunkel getönte Blink- und Rückfahrleuchten sowie eine Vierrohr-Auspuffanlage und „V8 KOMPRESSOR“-Schriftzüge (auf beiden Kotflügeln hinter den den Vorderrädern) von den Standardmodellen.
Unter der Motorhaube befand sich ein neu entwickelter V8-Motor der aus 5,5 Liter Hubraum (exakt: 5493 cm³) eine Leistung von maximal 350 kW (476 PS) und ein maximales Drehmoment von bis zu 700 Nm entwickelte. Möglich wurde dieser Leistungszuwachs durch einen zwischen den Zylinderblöcken eingebetteten Kompressor. Die Kraftübertragung erfolgt durch ein automatisches 5-Gang-Getriebe, das die Motorleistung an die Hinterräder abgibt.
Im Innenraum des SL 55 fanden sich sportlich geschnittene AMG-Integralsitze, die auch bei schnellen Kurvenfahrten genügend Seitenhalt bieten. Optische Unterscheidungsmerkmale zum SL 500 setzten die Zierteile aus Aluminium-Sandguss sowie im Cockpit die mit hellen Zifferblättern hinterlegten, silberfarbigen Symbolscheiben und roten Zeigern versehenen Instrumente, u. a. für die Drehzahl- und Geschwindigkeitsanzeige. I have a black GL 550. I want to fully deck it out. I mean FULLY. blacked out lights, dark windows 30″ wheels, and i want to raise it. where should i go to do this. Live in the rancho santa fe neighborhood in north county San Diego. and also i have a white C63 AMG should i trick it out the same way just not raised? or what? Or should i trade it for an armored S 600? im confused
