Athlete Endorsed Sports Products

Article by Hockey Player

Okay, you’ve read the heading “Athlete Endorsed Sports Products”. My experience involved hockey equipment that a big athletic star had put his name on. Bunches and bunches of individuals in the world seem to think, if a major sports star endorses this piece of equipment, then it must be great. Wrong. Sports stars are all for making money the majority of the time. I would recommend purchasing a discounted brand’s sports product from a corporation that has proven to produce excellent quality sports equipment. For instance: CCM, Bauer, or Mission. Those companies are first rate hockey equipment manufacturers. While this article is primarily about hockey equipment, most of what you will read in here could be applied to any sport of your liking.

Ok, back to what we were discussing. I’m going to tell a story about a sports star’s endorsed equipment that I decided to buy back when I was younger. They were roller hockey skates or inline hockey skates to be exact.

Wayne Gretzky Roller Hockey Skates

Ok, back when I was playing roller hockey, Wayne Gretzky was near the end of his hockey career. He was still playing for the nhl, but was only making assists and getting some goals every now and then. Everyone still knew him as The Great One though. Naturally, when I decided to join an inline hockey league, I purchased Gretzky’s skates. Great idea, right? He was a huge name! Nope. These hockey skates were awful. To put it bluntly, I owned a pair of CCM skates that were strapped roller blade kind of skates. They were not made for playing hockey, but they maneuvered better, glided better and lasted far more than the Gretzky endorsed skates.

How Long Gretzky’s Inline Hockey Skates Lasted

Well, I had recently signed up for a hockey league and couldn’t wait to test them out. They skated alright, but the boot on the skates was kind of wobbly and not firm. After playing a game or two with the skates, the wheels began to make noise. They have always been loud, but now the wheels started grinding. For your information, hockey skates with bearings that are loud are a sign of bad quality or they’re too old and must be changed. I decided to put up with the loud bearings and just play. Then, BOOM! The wheels started to split down the center. I mean split into two. I could no longer skate right. It was as if I was jogging. Like I was playing shoe hockey. No biggie, right? I removed the wheels, purchased really great inline wheels, got some nice abec 3 bearings, and I was all set to go.

Remember when I revealed that the skate boot was wobbly and wasn’t firm? Well it started to tear a little, but I was alright. I had brand new hockey skate wheels and abec 3s. I tearing it up on the scoreboard. Alright not really, I had about a goal so far the entire season. My next score was about to happen though! It was an awsome break away goal. I was zooming right for the goalie, deaked him out and scored!

I felt on my way back to the bench I was skating kinda funny. When I sat down, I glanced down at my inline skate and sure enough…. The entire boot had seperated entirely from the frame that held the wheels to it. It was as if it was a darn shoe now, not a hockey skate. This was my learning experience and beginning lesson on why you must never trust a sports star’s own line of equipment. I then had to look for a new inline skate and made a good decision on switching to Bauer.

These are the only ones i can think of within your price range:

2nd gen rx7 from the late 80′s to early 90′s I would imagine kinda cheap depending on condition and if everything is OEM

Nissan 240sx late 80′s through 98

Toyota corolla from the 80′s if you can find one, they are rare.

Toyota supras from 80′s
